NOTICE

Distraction Burglaries (4/11/10)

Two notices issued recently by the Leics police:

During the last week, incidents and crimes reported in the East Midlands region suggest that a team of criminals may be using a white Ford Focus ST bearing a registration number similar to FL58 HHC. This vehicle may well be linked to several distraction burglaries and as such Leicestershire Police are keen to locate this vehicle and its occupants.
If you see this vehicle please call the police immediately on 999 telling the call handling staff that you are responding to a request for observations. Please pass this message onto as many people s you can - your assistance is appreciated.

Distraction burglaries have been greatly reduced on NW Leics district, from 54 offences a year, four years ago, to 13 offences from 2/5/09 to
1/5/2010. In the last six months there have only been four offences, which is a further reduction. However, the threat from distraction burglars
remains, and the "waterboard" story is still the most common way of criminals tricking their way into peoples homes. Be on your guard, and
don`t let them in! Report suspicious incidents to the Police. NB Plse pass this msge on to neighbours, relatives, work colleagues or
other suitable persons.

All beats/groups Report...
Reports are being received about thefts of purses from womens shopping bags and handbags. Offences are occurring across the area. Please be vigilant, especially in shop queues. Purse bells and purse alarms are available free of charge from Coalville Police Stn front enquiry office, and members of your Neighbourhood Beat Team. For more information contact Steve Hastings, Community Co-ordinator, on 0116 248 3043.

Caravan Stolen 19-20 Jan 2010

Sometime during the evening or early morning of 19th/20th January a caravan was stolen from the field behind nos. 67-75 Main Street Snarestone. It appears the thieves entered the field through a gate on Quarry Lane and cut through a hedge to get at the caravan.
If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area at the times mentioned would they please contact the Police.

It would also be worth accepting that thieves are active in the area therefore all villagers should take extra care of their property and report anything that may concern.

When in the Bank...

Please be aware that there have been recent incidents in Ashby and Coalville towns that relate to people making withdrawals from inside banks. It would appear that a person watches from inside a busy bank; when they see a person withdraw a large amount of money they observe where you put the money, then either follow you themselves, or call a friend on a mobile phone to let them know you are leaving. One of them will then either pick your pocket or steal the money from your bag. Be on your guard. Be aware of those persons around you, and conceal the money you withdraw from banks or ATM`s. Report suspicious persons. Don`t forget purse alarms and bells are freely available from your local Police.

Be on your Guard!

An 82 year old woman from Castle Donington was visited by a bogus caller about 2pm on 4th November 2009. The man claimed to be conducting chimney repairs for a next door neighbour, tricked his way into her house and stole money. Be on your guard. If you don`t know the caller, don`t let them into your home.

Also...
A local resident has contacted me this morning about an alarm company representative that phoned him to say that he was giving away free burglar alarms, and was he interested. Plse be wary about such offers. Whilst it is always possible that there might actually be a "free" gift available occasionally, Police advice is to obtain a minimum of three quotes from different alarm companies before you make your decision. Don`t be pressurised to make a decision on the day. Take your time, because a "free" offer might still cost you a lot of money in the long term.
